I read Peter Bowerman's The Well-Fed Writer years ago at some point after I started my own business. When I decided to start self-publishing, I bought a copy of The Well-Fed Self Publisher too. In fact, I went a step further and bough his "Well-Fed Self-Publisher Biz in a Box," which has examples of all his book promotional materials.
The thing that's great about Peter's materials is that they are so practical. Although he doesn't give you the misguided impression that self-publishing is easy, he does make it sound doable. And his writing is so fun to read. By the end, you feel like you've gone on a journey with him throughout the process.
Naturally, when we did the first Self-Publishers Online Conference, I thought of Peter and invited him to speak. His presentations at the 2009 and 2010 events received rave reviews from the audience.
This year, I'm thrilled to say he's agreed to return for a "repeat performance." Even though Peter has spoken at SPOC before, his topic has always been different, and you get to enjoy the low-key and encouraging Peter Bowerman style. This year Peter will talk about the "Write Way to Publish and Promote Your Book" with information about crafting compelling book titles, writing back cover copy that sells, and incorporating time-tested copywriting tactics into all your promotional materials.
